Muli Tang is an internationally known portrait artist acclaimed for the graceful realism that is his stylistic signature. The native of Shanghai completed a Master of Arts degree at the Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing in 1980, and won the Chinese government scholarship for advanced study abroad through its first nation-wide competition, in addition to a British scholarship. Subsequently he was selected by the prestigious Peter Moores Foundation in 1983 as one of the fifteen most outstanding artists working in Britain, alongside others such as Lucian Freud. In 1984 he obtained a second M.A. degree from the Royal College of Art in London, England. During the latter half of the 1980’s, Muli Tang was a visiting scholar at Cornell University in the U.S.A. He also won numerous awards from art competitions in the New York region.
Muli Tang has traveled through more than thirty countries, immersing himself in the experience of various cultures and developing his sensibility through the study of artistic masterpieces and renowned scenic locations. His works are extensively exhibited and collected by museums, institutions, corporations and private collectors around the world, including the National Gallery of China and the Guggenheim Museum of New York.
